Enhanced Concrete Coating Process
Prep for Base Coat Application
Our process begins with the meticulous preparation. Our crews will take a grinder and remove up to a 1/16th of an inch off the top of the concrete. The concrete will be vacuumed to remove any dust or particulates. We will treat any cracks or pitting in the concrete to give the best outcome.
We offer two options when it comes to your base coat:
- We offer a diagnostic polyurea coat This will seal the floor and protect the second coat of polyurea from any contaminants in the floor that the grinding did not remove.
- We also offer a single application polyurea base coat. This step involves cutting in all edges around the floor and covering the entire concrete surface using a precise rolling technique to ensure even distribution and complete coverage.
Broadcasting the Color Flake
Immediately after the base coat is applied, we broadcast the color flakes by hand into the wet coating. This is done generously to cover the entire floor, ensuring uniformity in color and texture for a visually appealing finish.
Flake Adjustment
Once the base coat is fully cured, we proceed to "scrape" down the flake. Using metal blade scrapers, we meticulously remove any loose or vertically standing flakes and use an industrial grade vacuum to prepare a smooth and clean base for the final layers.
Clear Coat Application
The final coating phase involves applying a clear top coat or polyaspartic to seal in the flakes and enhance durability. We begin with the vertical surfaces and edges, followed by a thorough squeegeeing and rolling of the entire floor to prevent any lines or imperfections. We also offer extra grip if needed in areas like hot tubs and pools.
Curing and Completion
The coating needs 12 hours to dry to the touch, allowing foot traffic and items up to 600lbs to return to the floor. After 24 hours, the surface is ready for heavier use, including vehicle traffic. Enjoy the durability and new look of your professionally coated floor!
