“Best company ever! They worked with our insurance and handled everything! Absolutely the best crew of guys also! They worked all day, completed our beautiful new roof and cleaned up every last thing before they left. My yard and back porch look cleaner this afternoon than before they came. Highly recommend this company!”

Painting
Six steps.
Skip one and it shows.
Interior and exterior painting — walls, ceilings, trim, doors and metal — with the prep done properly, because paint almost never fails because of the paint.
Why paint fails
It is never the paint. It is the prep.
Paint fails because of what is under it — a chalked surface that was not washed, bare wood that was not primed, a crack that was not caulked. Every Three Stone job gets the same six steps: clean, mask, repair and caulk, prime, paint, then a foreman's inspection before we ask you to sign off.
Interiors are scheduled room by room so the house stays livable. Exteriors follow the shade in hot weather so the acrylic cures properly. Homes built before 1978 fall under the EPA lead-paint rule, and Three Stone is an RRP-certified Lead Renovator, so those surfaces are contained, worked and cleaned up the way the rule requires. And if the boards themselves are failing, paint will not save them — that is a siding conversation, and we will tell you so.
- Interior and exterior — walls, ceilings, trim, doors and metal
- Every exterior soft-washed and primed as part of the prep, not as an extra

- Color and sheen consultation before anything goes on the wall
- Rooms and elevations scheduled so the house stays livable
The six steps
Clean, mask, repair, prime, paint, inspect.
Clean
Every exterior is soft-washed; interiors are dusted and degreased. Paint bonds to a clean surface and nothing else.
Mask
Windows, fixtures, floors and landscaping protected before a can is opened.
Repair & caulk
Rotted trim replaced, nail holes filled, every joint and gap caulked — the step most crews skip.
Prime
Bare wood, repairs and chalked surfaces primed so the finish coat has something to hold.
Paint
Two finish coats, rolled or sprayed and back-rolled, following the shade in hot weather so acrylic cures properly.
Inspect
A foreman walks every surface with you before we ask you to sign off.

Answers
Painting questions
Cost, timing, how long it lasts and lead-safe work.
How much does it cost to paint a house exterior?
Cost tracks square footage, number of stories, how much prep the surface needs, and how many colors are in the scheme. Prep is the variable that moves the number most — scraping, caulking, and priming bare wood is real labor. Our estimates separate prep from paint so you can see the difference rather than guess at it.
How often should a home exterior be repainted?
Every 5–10 years for most Middle Tennessee homes. South- and west-facing elevations take the most sun and usually fail first, so a full repaint is not always necessary — sometimes two elevations are the whole job.
What is the best time of year to paint a house exterior?
Spring and fall. Modern acrylics need surface temperatures roughly between 50°F and 90°F and a dry surface to cure properly, which rules out the hottest part of a Tennessee summer afternoon and the wettest stretches of winter. We schedule elevations to follow the shade in hot weather.
How long does exterior paint last?
Seven to ten years on properly prepped fiber cement or wood, and longer on a factory finish like James Hardie ColorPlus. Paint almost never fails because of the paint — it fails because of prep, moisture behind the substrate, or a coat applied over a surface that was not clean.
Does the house need to be washed before painting?
Yes, always. Paint will not bond to chalked, dirty, or mildewed surfaces, and skipping the wash is the most common reason an exterior repaint fails early. Three Stone soft-washes as part of the prep rather than charging it as an extra.
How long does it take to paint a whole house?
Three to six working days for a typical repaint, with prep taking as long as the paint itself. Interiors are usually faster and are scheduled room by room so the house stays livable.
Is Three Stone certified for homes with lead paint?
Yes. Homes built before 1978 fall under the EPA Renovation, Repair and Painting rule, and Three Stone is RRP-certified to contain, work, and clean up those surfaces safely.
